What has happened to the "old fashioned" email?

My topic today would be myspacing, facebooking, and well yes, blogging in general.  And, yes, I have sucumbed to the powerful vacum of it all, pasting your face or not your face, making a bit of a sell as to who you are on the web...but I must admit I have my regrets.

I regret in the sense that your create yourself...a new you, a "hip" you, or an alternative you, a you that is connected to perhaps a lot of people, but really none at all.  an thats marketing my friends.... we are in a new wave of personal marketing.  And in a sort of sickly fascinating way I can poke around and see how people present their lives, and never really have to make contact with them....yes, I am remenescing over those days, when the old fashioned email was constructed to comunicate with an individual. And now we write one liners, during our lunch breaks, or breaks from monotonous work at the computer...to connect, yes, but we are at the fourth derivative of connecting, from back in the days when we paid people personal visits.  Personal visits to letters to telephone to email to now, blogging...What will be the next derivative of the facebook?

...Drinking Jasmine tea and reading a book.  Its a rainy day here in the capital of Costa Rica.  Pitter Patter, pitter patter.  Much thoughts today?  Well, yes and no.  But my head needs a rest.  Analytical thinking to be put aside for another day.

I had a day at the dentist´s office.  I dont think I have flossed my teeth in a year, so that was fun.  Nothing like hearing the high-pitched whistling sound of that machine scraping all the gunk off my teeth.  It makes one want to react violently, except that would be a bad idea... since any slight, jerky move, could send that threatening utensil piercing through the my soft sensitive gums.  Ahhh!  Not ready for another body piercing.

wake up to another day.

waking up2

It's still May.  What shall I do today?

I just completed reading Pamuk´s book on Instanbul.  I am feeling as if I am still in Istanbul....I became so into the book, that I am not sure if I have left it!  Orhan and I have a deep connection (he just doesnt know it).  Its not the mere fact that he studied architecture (and quit), wanted to be a painter (but didnt), and then ended up writing (which I hope some day to write)...its the way he thinks and appreciates about everything around him.

Orhan I am in love with you!

Well, other than this.  It is a day here in Cost Rica.  I could blog a long heated paragraph about "trying to accomplish work" in Costa Rica.  But the gumption to do so has left me, much like, what actually happens when I am trying to get something done.  It becomes such a long burdensome and unecessarily complicated chore for something so simple, that in the end, why even bother?

Panama City!

Panama city at night

Not much to say...heading off to the San Blas Islands in a few hours...Its 1:30 AM now, and I will be leaving in 4 hours.   I have travelled 15 hours today from the capital of Costa Rica (San Jose) to Panama City. The buses are awesome...decorated with reflective tape, spray paint, cool messages.  Today, I unfortunately could not take a pic of  "Cristo Negro" who painted on the back of a bus...but, I think it  would be better defined as "One-hand  Black Jesus"...because, that was the only dark-skinned part on his body was his arm protruding to make a one-fisted.black-power sign.  Other events of the day?

Well, of all places, went to McDonalds for an espresso with mil and an egg-mcmuffin, and then headed off tho the Panama Canal...truly amazing!  ...great city, very different frome Costa Rica.  Recommend a visit.
